Central
Middle School Teacher of the Year

The 2006-2007
Wartburg Central Middle School Teacher of the Year is Connie Whaley.
In addition, Connie has been recognized as this year’s Morgan County
Teacher of the Year. A graduate of Tennessee
Technological University, Connie obtained a Bachelors Degree in
Multi-Disciplinary Instruction and a Masters Degree in Instructional
Leadership. This is Connie’s ninth year as a 6th grade
Language Arts teacher.
Connie enjoys an
active lifestyle. She is an instructor with the Wartburg All Mountain
Team – riding mountain bikes and hiking with CMS and CHS students.
Recently, Connie became certified as a weight training
consultant from the American Aerobic Association International and The
International Sports Medicine Association. She occasionally competes
as a short distance runner and placed 1st in her age division at the
2007 Knoxville Marathon 5K. In addition, Connie will add
“Conditioning Coach” to her repertoire with the 2007-2008 CMS Lady
Bulldogs basketball team.

The 2005-2006 Wartburg Central Middle
School Teacher of the Year is Ms. Myrna Gail Sumner. Ms. Sumner teaches
7th grade Geography, 7th grade Math, and 8th
grade Pre-Algebra. She is also sponsor of the WCMS Student Council.
Ms. Sumner also does Academic Intervention each week day morning.
During the After School Program Ms. Sumner is helping with the Audio
Book Club and the WCMS Choir. Ms. Sumner has been teaching in
Tennessee for 31 years.
Ms. Sumner has gone on to win the titles of the
Morgan County Middle School Teacher of the Year and the Upper Cumberland
District Middle School Teacher of the Year. Ms. Sumner also
graduated this past summer from the University of Tennessee with a
Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership. Our school is very proud of
Ms. Sumner.

The 2004 - 2005 Central Middle School
teacher of the year is Ms. Betty Redmon. Ms. Betty teaches 8th
grade language arts. She has been teaching for 27 years. Ms. Betty says
teaching is a calling. She enjoys helping students and then seeing them
go on to be successful in life.
Some of Ms. Betty's interest are helping coach girls
basketball at the high school, being involved in her church, and taking
care of bluebirds. Ms. Betty is a very hardworking and dedicated
teacher. It is great to have her on staff at Central Middle School!

The 2003 - 2004 Central Middle School
teacher of the year is Ms. Carol Engebretson. Ms. Engebretson teaches
7th and 8th grade science. She has been teaching at Central for 9 years.
The teacher of the year award was voted on by Ms.
Engebretson's peers. Ms. Engebretson went on to win the Morgan County
Middle School teacher of the year. This is a great honor and we are glad to have her
on the staff at Central Middle School. Keep up the hard work Carol! |

The 2002 - 2003 Central Middle School
teacher of the year is Ms. Nancy McCartt. Ms. McCartt teaches 8th grade
reading. She has been teaching for 10 years. Ms. McCartt became a
teacher because she loves to help children succeed.
In her time away from school Ms. McCartt enjoys
watching her two children play sports, swimming, and working around her
home. It is great to have supportive and caring teachers like her in the
education field. Keep up the good work Ms. McCartt! |
